What is Tamalà?
Tamalà is a social enterprise dedicated to bringing the unique beauty of Malagasy artisanship to the world. Based in Antananarivo, our mission is to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Madagascar.
We aim to create opportunities for local artisans, elevating their crafts to meet international standards while preserving the authenticity and tradition of their work.
Madagascar is home to immense artistic talent, with 30% of the population involved in artisanal activities. Despite this, much of our artisans' work remains undiscovered beyond our borders, or when it does, it’s often through large ateliers and factories where artisans receive little compensation for their incredible craftsmanship.
At Tamalà, we believe that the untapped skills and cultural knowledge spread across the island can create opportunities for local artisans while helping preserve our heritage. By connecting these artisans with global markets and supporting them in refining their products and processes to meet international standards, we ensure they receive fair compensation and long-term growth opportunities. This empowers them to move beyond the day-to-day struggle and toward planning for a better, more sustainable future.
Why Tamalà?

How we aim to collaborate with artisans
1.
Product development
We are their eyes and ears on trends and innovations when needed. We also help them come up with designs that transcend their ordinary and challenge them.
2.
Skill and capacity building
We provide training where needed and support in their capacity building projects to meet international standards.
3.
Implementation of socially and environmentally responsible practices.
We perform process audits to determine, prioritize, and implement environmentally and socially beneficial changes.
4.
Market access
We connect artisans with brands who share their and our values, and provide visibility for their work beyond Madagascar’s borders.
As we are slowly rolling out projects, our goal is to confidently remove the “aim to” from that phrase within the next year.
